Volunteer Release Form

Each volunteer working on the site will need to complete a Release and Hold Harmless agreement. The build days will go smoother if you come with the form already filled out (especially if you are part of a group). Click here to download the release form.

What to Wear and Bring

Consider current weather conditions and determine if sunscreen may be advised for those participating in an afternoon shift. Layers of comfortable old clothes and headwear for sun(or rain) are recommended. We will work rain or shine. Closed-toe and closed-heal shoes or boots are needed on the construction site. Please tie back long hair and leave jewelry at home.

Please bring work gloves, eye protection and ear protection if you have them (some loaners will be available). It may also come in handy to bring your own nail apron, tape measure and marking pen(Sharpie or construction pencil) if you have them.

What to Expect

Please check-in at the volunteer tent when you arrive and join a crew . Your labor is an important donation for our grant match and we want to document the hours worked. Skilled and unskilled builders will self identify themselves so that everyone can do tasks and use tools that they are comfortable with. After a safety briefing a runner will take you to the captain of a crew. As a rough rule of thumb, if you can cut a straight line with a circular saw, or operate a power miter saw, then you may qualify as a "skilled" builder.

If you come with the release form already filled out and signed then the check-in process will go more quickly.

Parking

Volunteer parking is available across the street from the build site at the City Public Works Shop located at 4951 Grandview Dr W, University Place. The North Meadow parking lot will be closed, so walking & biking are encouraged. Parking plans include the north side of Bristonwood, the Public Works yard across the street, and evening and weekend hours at Sunset Primary (4523- 97th AVE W). We will also have over-flow parking at the Beckonridge Pool Parking lot(9402 52nd St W, behind Sunset Primary School).

Childcare

Please make a reservation for any Children 2 (and potty trained) through 13 that will be attending the childcare events in the Public Works building. Children under 10 are not allowed in the build area.

Youth Builders

Please keep youth ages 10-13 close by at all times, their safety is your responsibility. If you are uncomfortable with them on site at any time, they may be checked into the childcare system. Youth ages 14-17 may work independently on a crew but may NOT use power tools.
